The ranch is less than 20 minutes by car to the magnificent Gulf of Nicoya. If you like to sail, this is idyllic. Or simply rent a fishing boat and a guide for a tour of the wonderful Islands, swimming off shore one of the islands, stopping for lunch at one of the fishing ports, and visiting the nesting place of a remarkable variety of birds. Or have a guide take you out by kayak to explore the rich habitats hidden among the mangroves.
The beaches in our area are the most beautiful and unspoiled in all of Costa Rica, and boast glorious sunsets right over the water. Due to our lower population density, they are not polluted as you may find in some of the more touristy areas. Our own beach lot is so spectacularly remote that a small fire on the beach to accompany a sunset skinny dip.
The ranch is located near a great number of cultural and ecological attractions, including a water-fall/swimming hole, and old fashioned sugar cane processing plant, a fair trade coffee coop helping locals grow and sell sustainable coffee, the caves of Barra Honda National Park, a marine-based women’s tourism coop on the nearby island of Chirra and the hand-made open-air pottery center for native crafts in the style of the Pre-Columbian work of the region. As the only eco-lodge in the area, the locals value its potential to house visitors to these sites.
Of course our own horses can be used for magnificent tours of the area. For serious riders, we have even taken them on 4-day beach trips over wonderful back roads.
When you come to visit the ranch, we encourage you to allow time to take some of these local tours as a way of better getting to know the area and the wonderful local people who benefit from this patronage. Advance booking for tours is recommended.
